A letter from the principal

Dear Parents and Guardians

I am thrilled to return to our wonderful Sacred Heart school community. It has been a joy to see the smiling faces of the students when I visit, and I am eager to get to know each of them better as the year progresses.

Our commitment to nurturing the whole child remains at the heart of all we do, inspired by the Marist ethos of humility, simplicity, and modesty. This year, we are excited to continue offering a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum that blends academic excellence with innovative teaching methods. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in their studies and become thoughtful, compassionate leaders in an ever-changing world.

Our aim, as a school, is to develop the potential of all our students through our academic, sport, culture, leadership and community engagement. Our Primary School seeks to provide a progressive and stimulating environment where our students are encouraged to think critically, and analytically. Just as important in our learning are the interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, the teamwork and leadership, the ability to think on their feet and work under pressure that will equip our students no matter what the future brings.

Our children learn and grow within a community where they feel safe and secure, have high clear expectations of how they should be treated by others, and have high standards for themselves in how they behave towards other people.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

As a Marist school, we aim to develop the potential of all our students through our academic, sports, culture, leadership, and community involvement.

Our Primary School seeks to provide a progressive and stimulating environment where our students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and analytically. This empowers and helps them to develop their potential across all areas of school life. Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that children need to succeed in their everyday lives, which is why it is a key focus in the early years.

Developing the whole child

An equally important area of focus in our learning is helping children harness their interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to think on their feet and work under pressure to equip them with the skill sets needed for a changing future.

Sport

The main purpose of sport at the College is to provide everyone with the knowledge and experience to be active for life.

Throughout the school the focus will be on providing opportunities for participation, enjoyment and excellence. Our programmes foster:

Active participation throughout the school and this correlates positively with improved academic performance. Participation increases the likelihood of the student becoming an active adult.

Spirituality

We nurture each child's spiritual integrity through prayer, reflection, meditation, and contemplation, centered on catholic belief.


Culture

We undertake to form well-balanced children by offering a variety of cultural activities.

Students have a wide range of sports to choose from


Extracurricular

We off additional extracurricular activities that provide students with the opportunity to explore their creative, athletic, and musical skills.


Aftercare

Club Engage, an Out-of-School Hours Care Provider that is locally
owned and operated, offers services in Before Care, Aftercare and
Holiday Clubs. Club Engage is South Africa’s leading Provider of on-site
Aftercare solutions for families.

Curriculum

 The Primary School curriculum is a dynamic and varied experience for children. Within the Marist ethos, we wish to guide children who will become successful individuals who will serve their communities well. Our curriculum is a well-balanced one which allows children to learn while exploring different learning styles. The academic and non-academic programmes are carefully thought out, guided by the National Curriculum, the IEB and international standards. Teachers constantly review and read up on the latest trends in education so as to constantly improve our curriculum.
