Midmar 2023

By High School News, Primary School News, Sport

Making a splash at the world’s largest open-water swim!

We celebrate our fearless swimmers who took part in or completed the Midmar Mile on 11-13 February. We are hugely proud of Kai Davies-Penfold, Grade 4B, 9 years old, who completed the Midmar Mile in the Girls 13 and under section, in 40 minutes

Dipping your toes into the unknown takes courage, but finishing takes heart.

The Marist Virtual Run 2022

By School News, Sport

On Sunday 5 June we launched our Team Marist 2022 Run/Walk at Sacred Heart College. Families walked or ran the 4kms that St Marcellin Champagnat, Founder of the Marist Brothers teaching order, walked between The Hermitage and La Valla-en-Gier (where his first school was situated) each day. A Zumba class added to the festive mood and had everyone getting in a cardio workout. Everyone enjoyed the day out in the sunshine.

There is still time to enter the Team Marist run. Participants can complete multiple distances of 4kms for their entry should they wish. In addition to the participation fee of R50, participants are invited to make a donation to accompany their entry fee, which will go to their school’s Champagnat Day Fund.

One-fifth of each school’s funds raised will go to either Marist Mercy Care (in the Eastern Cape) or to the Three2Six Programme.

All participants will receive a virtual medal upon completion of their event.

Golf Day

By High School News, Primary School News, School News, Sport

Our annual golf day took place on Friday, 5 November at the Observatory Golf course. The golfers enjoyed a fabulous day on a beautiful, sunny day clad in their Sacred Heart golf shirts. The senior Marimba wowed the golfers with their musical talent.

Thank you to our sponsor, Liberty and to our generous parents, sponsors and golfers for helping us raise funds for our Scholarship programme.

Our basketball star Thibamo Makgalemele

By Alumni, School News, Sport

After matriculating from Sacred Heart, Thibamo Makgalemele, went to play basketball in Arlington Country Day in Jacksonville, Florida USA. There he played AAU basketball with and against future NBA players like Luguentz Dort and Deandre Ayton and was offered a scholarship to play basketball in USC Salkehatchie.

Since then he’s been playing for the national league in South Africa called the BNL for the Egoli Magic team and won two champions in 2019 and 2020 and won one with the Soweto Panthers in 2018.

With the newly formed BAL he has hopes to lead or be part of a South African team that participates and wins the league and to keep adding more to my trophy cabinet
